How to Read Resistor Color Codes: A 4-Band Guide

1. Identify the Direction

Hold the resistor so the Gold or Silver band is on the right side. This is the Tolerance band. You read the value from left to right, starting from the opposite side.

2. The 4-Band Logic

  • 1st Band (First Digit): Represents the first number of the resistance value.
  • 2nd Band (Second Digit): Represents the second number.
  • 3rd Band (Multiplier): Tells you how many zeros to add to the first two numbers (or what power of 10 to multiply by).
